How these estimates work
Per portion and for your whole batch. These are ingredient-based estimates, not laboratory-tested nutrition facts. Optional ingredients are excluded.
Estimated nutrition counts all measured ingredients and oil. Reference-food proxies and ranges remain; brands and cooking losses vary. Not laboratory analysis or a medical recommendation.
USDA FoodData Central references. Brands, food varieties, preparation and portion size change the result. Added sugars assume plain, unsweetened ingredients; for prepared breads and sauces, a range shows zero to the reference food’s total sugar because the added amount is unspecified.
Ingredients, sources & assumptions
All listed edible food and oil are counted as eaten. Cooking losses and final cooked weight are not measured. Some ingredients use a stated reference food or a proxy for a missing nutrient. No personalized dietary advice.

Let’s make it
Steps at a glance 5 steps
Amounts below match your selected batch. Follow each short step, and use timers as reminders to check the food.
Equipment
Kitchen scale with 0.1 g precision · Knife · Cutting board · Saucepan · Colander · Potato masher · Wide skillet · Baking dish · Fork · Oven · Food thermometer
- 1
Boil and mash the potatoes
Heat the oven to 400°F / 200°C. Cover 900 g (about 4 medium potatoes, skin on) potato cubes with drinking water in a saucepan. Simmer 15–20 minutes until very tender, then drain. Mash with 20 g olive oil and 1 g salt, adding a little reserved cooking water if needed for a spreadable texture. Leave the soft skins in.
- 2
Cook the filling
Finely dice 300 g (about 5 medium carrots, trimmed) carrots and 160 g celery. Heat 12 g oil in a wide skillet over medium heat. Cook 160 g chopped onion, carrots and celery for 8–10 minutes, stirring. Add 500 g ground turkey and cook 7–10 minutes, breaking it into small pieces, until it reaches 165°F / 74°C. Keep raw-turkey utensils away from ready-to-eat food.
- 3
Thicken the filling
Add 8 g garlic and 2 g thyme for 30 seconds, then 400 g canned tomatoes with their juices, 150 ml water and 1 g salt. Break up the tomatoes. Simmer uncovered for 12–15 minutes until the vegetables are soft and the mixture is thick, with no watery pool when pushed aside.
- 4
Cover with mash and bake
Spread the hot filling in a baking dish roughly 20 by 25 cm for the base batch. Spoon the mash over it, spread to the edges, and drag a fork lightly across the top. Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbling at the edges, golden on the ridges and 165°F / 74°C in the center. Use extra dishes at the same depth for larger batches.
- 5
Rest and serve
Rest for 10 minutes, then divide all the filling and topping equally among the selected dinner portions. The turkey, vegetables and potato together make the complete meal.
