Read recipe nutrition estimates

Every current recipe has a Nutrition tab with estimates per portion and for the whole batch. Changing portions updates both. Open Ingredients, sources & assumptions for the USDA references and any substitute reference foods. Ranges show uncertainty in tofu, sauce measurements or unspecified added sugar; brands can differ further. Optional ingredients are excluded. Print and PDF use the same estimates. These are not laboratory-tested nutrition facts or personal dietary advice.

Ask a question or suggest an improvement

Use Questions & suggestions at the bottom of any page. Your message goes to a private owner inbox, not a public comment page. Keep sensitive information out. The form does not send email or collect a reply address; use the email link if you need a conversation.

Cook a page at a time

Cooking mode keeps one step in a reading area, with Back and Next close at hand and a gentle page flip when motion is enabled. Each step opens at its beginning; long instructions and large text can scroll. Use the top toolbar for Ingredients, Steps, Timers or Settings. Each opens a separate panel in the book. Back to step returns to your current instruction without losing timers, checkmarks or portions. Where the browser allows it, opening cooking mode asks your device to keep the screen awake while the page is visible; the Settings panel in the book turns that off or on again, and says so honestly when the device declines. Exit closes cooking mode.

Keep several timers running

Start a suggested timer or label your own for the current step. A short confirmation appears, then fades. Each timer has a small arrow tab on the right: tap it to see the task, remaining time and controls. Near-finished tabs turn amber; finished tabs show an alert symbol and gently pulse when motion is allowed. Dismiss one and the others move up. Pause, resume, add time, restart or dismiss each one separately. Starting a timer also tries to enable sound when your settings allow it. Turning sound off keeps it off for this visit. With sound on, a gentle reminder repeats until every expired timer is dismissed or you turn sound off. Keep an eye on food: sound may stop when the phone locks, the browser closes or the app is suspended or muted.

Choose motion and sound settings

Settings saves cooking illustration, page-turn, other motion and sound choices to your signed-in account, separately from kitchen saves. Timer tone chooses the reminder pattern: Gentle (the original three soft notes about every 8 seconds), Insistent (two quick groups about every 5 seconds) or Urgent (three brisk groups about every 3 seconds). Every tone uses short separate notes at the same modest volume, never a continuous alarm, and “Hear the selected tone once” plays it only when you tap it. The operating system’s reduced-motion choice takes priority. Motion stays off while preferences load. Starting a timer supplies the tap browsers need to activate sound. Saved Sound off and your Sound off choice are respected. If the device blocks audio, Sound on offers a retry. Loading a page alone never starts audio.

Use approximate ingredient counts

Some raw produce weights include a rough count with a reference size and preparation form. The precise weight remains the recipe amount. Counts scale with portions and appear in Notes and print copies too. We omit unreliable conversions. Weigh peeled, trimmed or drained ingredients in their stated form; package weight can include waste or liquid.

Share a recipe and follow its review

Sign in to type a recipe, paste it or import a small plain-text file. Review the text before submitting, add attribution and grant permission plus AI-review consent. Images and PDF extraction are not supported yet. Submissions stay private while completeness and plausibility checks run. Uncertain recipes wait for clarification; you can correct or withdraw your submission. AI review is not a kitchen test, and upload does not mean publication.

Find a meal—or a quick snack

Search by ingredient, time or meal. Open Filters for dietary choices, equipment and ingredients to avoid. The Nutrition dropdown offers High protein (20 g or more), Low carb (30 g or less), Fiber-rich (6 g or more) and Lower sodium (600 mg or less), each per standard recipe portion from the recipe’s own ingredient-based estimate; recipes missing that value are left out, and these are practical site thresholds, not dietary advice. Quick snacks groups simple ideas for home, make-ahead portions and packed days. Saved household exclusions stay active.

Use what is already in your kitchen

In What can I make?, enter the ingredients you have. Choose a suggestion, check its full ingredient list, then add only what you need to your shopping list. Mark “Already have this” to leave an ingredient out of shopping and printing.

Adjust portions and follow the recipe

Enter how many portions to make. Ingredients and linked amounts in the steps scale together. Oven temperatures stay the same; larger batches may need more pans or time. Cooking mode shows one step at a time. Timers are reminders, not doneness checks, and may be quiet when your phone is locked.

Save favorites and help other families

Tap Save on a recipe to put it in My recipes on this browser. After you have tried it, sign in and choose “Worked for us” or “Needs improvement.” Your name stays private; the counts help others choose. Tap again to remove your vote. Each new recipe version starts its own feedback.

Plan a week, including leftovers

Choose a day in Meal planner and add a recipe, a custom meal or leftovers. Set how much to cook and how much to eat now. Link later leftovers to that batch so ingredients are bought once. Custom meals need their own shopping items. “Add week to shopping list” uses your planned cooking amounts.

Shop with a short, organized list

Add a meal from its recipe or bring over your week. Ingredients group by department. Tick what you buy; use “Already have this” for food at home. Extra items join the actual list. Finish trip clears bought items without bringing them back. Undo is available for the last matching change.

Understand stores and automatic estimates

Choose your usual stores and a default once. New items go to that default; Change store moves exceptions. Estimates buy whole packages. Dated listings and general planning ranges are labeled separately; a general range is the same at every store. Unknown items are not counted as free. For extra-item research, sign in and enable the one-time browser choice. No manual prices are required. Source checks are scheduled, not instant; local availability and checkout totals can differ.

Keep saves across devices

This browser saves your kitchen locally. Sign in to My account and choose Turn on automatic saving. If your account already holds different saves, a short review first lets you combine both copies or use the account copy in this browser. After that, changes here are sent to your account while you are online and stay here until the account confirms them. A short line under the menu appears only when a save is pending, waiting for a connection, not yet confirmed or needs review; My account shows when the last save was confirmed. On another device, sign in and turn it on the same way; a brand-new browser with nothing saved receives your account copy on its own. If two devices changed the account, saving pauses and My account asks you to review both copies; nothing is combined or removed without your choice. More options in My account hold the rarer actions: save now, merge, download the account copy or stop automatic saving. My account also keeps your last 10 previous account copies to download or load back. Family edits save directly to your account.

Remember family preferences

Sign in and add a nickname, favorite meals and cooking preferences in My family. Apply family exclusions when you want them used in search and planning. A warning such as “Robin (tagged dairy-free)” means that person’s saved preference has no matching tag on the recipe, so check it; “avoids milk” means the recipe lists something they avoid. Warnings help you review ingredients, but cannot guarantee that a packaged product is suitable. Family names are shown only to the signed-in account they belong to; signing out hides them on that device without deleting anything. Keep medical histories out of these fields and check labels.

Send a list to Notes or your calendar

Use Export to copy or share ingredients, shopping items or a meal plan to Notes or Samsung Notes. Your phone decides which apps are available. Download a calendar file to import meals into Apple Calendar or another compatible app; it is a snapshot, not ongoing sync. Print opens a preview with a PDF option.

Install the app and prepare for poor signal

App & offline access explains Add to Home Screen on iPhone and installation on supported Android browsers. Before you leave, prepare an optional take-along copy. It stays on that device—even after sign-out—until you remove it. Offline checkmarks need review before applying to your current list; account saving is separate.

Protect your saves and manage your account

Remember me keeps a trusted device signed in for up to 30 days. Leave it off on shared devices. With automatic saving on, your account and its previous versions are the main safety net. The backup tools in My recipes start collapsed for everyone; open them whenever you want a file. Without automatic saving, download a backup file before clearing browser data: changes that have not reached your account exist only in that browser and are lost with it. The backup is a file for this website to restore, not a document to read; a separate readable kitchen summary can be downloaded and printed. Recovery tools and unreadable-data warnings stay in My recipes. Account settings let you change your password, sign out, turn automatic saving off or on for a browser, or delete account data (including its previous versions); downloaded files and offline copies are separate.

A little encouragement—and a place to contribute

Daily encouragement offers Scripture at your pace. You can also share an original recipe privately, report an issue, read our story or use Give. Recipe submissions are not published immediately. We do not send newsletters or reminder emails; email is used only to confirm an account and recover a password.

How new recipes are checked

New recipes are checked after 6 a.m. Pacific; additions appear when review is complete. The maintenance pass runs about every six hours, and the first pass after 6 a.m. may add at most one recipe that day or record a hold. The source workflow researches ideas, writes original instructions and checks ingredient identities, quantities, step links, allergens and all seven stores’ estimate coverage. Independent AI review can hold a recipe for correction. This is not a physical kitchen test or a guarantee of live store prices. Scheduled work needs the research host available; missed days do not publish filler.
