How these estimates work
Per portion and for your whole batch. These are ingredient-based estimates, not laboratory-tested nutrition facts. Optional ingredients are excluded.
Estimated nutrition counts all measured ingredients and oil. Reference-food proxies and ranges remain; brands and cooking losses vary. Not laboratory analysis or a medical recommendation.
USDA FoodData Central references. Brands, food varieties, preparation and portion size change the result. Added sugars assume plain, unsweetened ingredients; for prepared breads and sauces, a range shows zero to the reference food’s total sugar because the added amount is unspecified.
Ingredients, sources & assumptions
All listed edible food and oil are counted as eaten. Cooking losses and final cooked weight are not measured. Some ingredients use a stated reference food or a proxy for a missing nutrient. No personalized dietary advice.

Let’s make it
Steps at a glance 3 steps
Amounts below match your selected batch. Follow each short step, and use timers as reminders to check the food.
Equipment
Kitchen scale · Clean towel · Bowl · Rimmed baking tray · Oven
- 1
Dry and spread
Heat the oven to 400°F / 200°C. Pat 480 g drained chickpeas very dry with a clean towel. Toss with 20 g oil and 1 g salt, then spread in one uncrowded layer on a rimmed baking tray.
- 2
Roast until dry
Roast for 35–45 minutes, shaking the tray every 15 minutes, until the beans look dry and golden. Toss with 3 g cumin and 3 g sweet paprika and roast for 5 minutes more. Let one chickpea cool before checking the texture; bake a little longer if still wet inside, and lower the heat if browning too quickly.
- 3
Cool and portion
Cool on the tray for 10 minutes and divide equally among the selected snack portions. Expect some softer centers; different canned beans roast differently. Use more trays rather than a deeper layer for a larger batch. These whole crunchy legumes are not appropriate for young children or anyone with swallowing difficulty.

Make it work for you
For kids & different preferences
Whole crisp chickpeas can be a choking hazard for young children and people with swallowing difficulties. This crunchy snack is intended for people who can safely manage that texture. Adults handle hot trays. Do not assume it is suitable for every child.
Storage & packed lunches
Eat freshly cooled for the best texture. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container at 40°F / 4°C or colder within 2 hours, or within 1 hour above 90°F / 32°C, and use within 3 days; they will soften. Home roasting is not a validated shelf-stable preservation process.
Freezing & reheating
Freezing is safe but softens the texture; freeze for up to 1 month for quality.
Reheat cooked leftovers to 165°F / 74°C throughout. Keep uncooked accompaniments separate.
If something looks different
Times are guides: use the stated texture and doneness checks. Larger batches need more pan space and time.
