Let’s make it

Steps at a glance 4 steps

Amounts below match your selected batch. Follow each short step, and use timers as reminders to check the food.

Equipment

Kitchen scale · Blender operated by an adult · Two bowls · Spoons · Six small ice-pop molds with guarded reusable handles · Freezer

  1. 1

    Prepare the fruit and equipment

Wash hands, molds and utensils. Rinse 180 g fresh blueberries, remove stems and damaged berries, and drain. Wash the banana before peeling, then weigh 180 g (about 1½ medium bananas, peeled) peeled ripe banana. Set out six molds with at least 100 milliliters of usable filling space below the maker’s expansion line (typically 125 milliliters nominal capacity) for the base batch, with broad reusable handles and guards; use the number of molds appropriate to your scaled yield. An adult checks that all handles are intact and fit securely.

  2. 2

    Blend two smooth mixtures

An adult blends banana with 160 g plain yogurt until completely smooth, then transfers it to a bowl. Blend blueberries with 80 g yogurt until no whole berries or firm pieces remain; tiny soft skin flecks are expected. Keep children away from blender blades and unplug the appliance before cleaning. Use fresh berries; frozen berries may require cooking according to their label and must be cooled safely before use.

  3. 3

    Fill and swirl

Under adult supervision, children can alternate small spoonfuls of the two mixtures in the molds. Make a gentle swirl with a clean spoon handle, then remove it. Leave the expansion space required by the mold maker, fit the guarded reusable handles and freeze upright for at least 6 hours until fully frozen. For the base batch, divide the approximately 600 grams of mixture into six equal portions of about 100 grams before filling. If smaller molds require extra pieces, group those pieces into the same six equal portions; an extra mold does not create an extra serving. Scale the number of equal portions with the selected yield.

  4. 4

    Unmold and serve safely

An adult loosens molds briefly under lukewarm running water, following the maker instructions, and checks handles again. Let a pop soften slightly before offering; do not encourage biting off hard frozen chunks. Serve seated with direct adult supervision, never while walking or playing. For a child unable to manage a handle or hard frozen texture, let a portion soften in the refrigerator and serve spoonable from a bowl instead.

Make it work for you

For kids & different preferences

Choose participation by ability: children can wash fruit and spoon or swirl the mixtures with adult supervision; adults operate the blender and handle molds. Frozen hard texture and handles can pose choking or injury risks. Use intact guarded handles, keep children seated and supervise directly, and never encourage biting off chunks. If the child cannot manage this texture safely, soften a portion in the refrigerator and spoon-feed or offer a bowl as appropriate. Not infant-feeding guidance and not suitable for every age. Milk is an allergen; check labels and individual needs.

Storage & packed lunches

Freeze promptly in covered molds at 0°F / -18°C or colder. Before freezing or when serving softened, keep at 40°F / 4°C or colder and refrigerate within 2 hours, or within 1 hour above 90°F / 32°C. Discard partly eaten leftovers.

Freezing & reheating

Keep covered and frozen for up to 1 month for quality. Do not refreeze a partly eaten or warm melted pop.

No heating is needed. Soften under refrigeration if serving as a spoonable dessert.

If something looks different

Cooking times are guides. Check texture and temperature; larger batches need extra pan space and may take longer.
